Crestor (the market name for Rosuvastatin) is commonly used to treat conditions such as high cholesterol and as a preventative of cardiovascular disease. Often times Crestor will be prescribed with the addition of diet and exercise to reduce an individual’s overall cholesterol level. It is classified as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and works by slowing the amount of cholesterol that the body produces.
Crestor is delivered in a pill form and most likely your doctor will start you on a lower dosage of Crestor and gradually increase your dosage. It is imperative that you consult your doctor before discontinuing the use of Crestor as complications may occur if you suddenly stop taking your medication without your doctor’s supervision. Common Crestor Side Effects:
- constipation
- heartburn
- dizziness
- difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
- depression
- joint pain
- cough
Severe Crestor Side Effects:
- muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness
- lack of energy
- fever
- chest pain
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- pain in the upper right part of the abdomen
- nausea
- extreme tiredness
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- loss of appetite
- flu-like symptoms
- sore throat, chills, or other signs of infection
- rash
- hives
- itching
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- hoarseness
- numbness or tingling in fingers or toes
